Mesr

Mesr village

Mesr village is almost a hundred years old and was once known as Chah Deraz. As far as the eye can see, the surroundings are covered with long and short dunes of golden sand. This landscape of particular beauty makes the area famous as a sea of sand. Just stand in one of these dunes for the golden sea to appear before your eyes. The sand dunes sparkle like the shimmering waves of the sea in the sun.

Mesr -means Egypt in Persian- is a desert town located in the central district of Khur, in the province of Isfahan, 45 km from the city of Jandaq and 371 km from Yazd.

Mesr is an oasis located in the central desert of Iran, known as Dasht-e Kavir in Persian.

This desert is known for its unique sand hills and incredible bamboo field. The sandy hills that surround the town are known as thrones as strong winds have flattened the surface into distinctive and attractive shapes. Tajt-e Arus (bride’s throne) and Tajt-e Abbasí (Abbasid throne) are among the most famous flat hills in the area. To reach these flat and sandy hills, you have to travel a short distance through the desert, which is only possible with a 4 × 4 vehicle. Once at the top of each sand throne, there will be a breathtaking view of the town and the desert.

The old name of the village was Khose replaced by Chah-Deraz (long well) because the village water was fed from this deep well that was 25 km from Mesr village. With its beautiful gardens, Mesr village is a green dot in the middle of the arid desert that makes this oasis so special for travelers. The relevant point is undoubtedly the beautiful night sky, when the stars seem to be as close as if they touch the sand.
